Description
ʟ-Carnitine is an essential cofactor that is required for the transport of free long chain fatty acids into the inner mitochondrial matrix where they enter the beta oxidation pathway for cellular energy production.
There are several forms of carnitine available, yet acetyl-ʟ-carnitine (ALC) is the preferred active form that has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and therefore can be helpful in conditions affecting the nervous system. Several studies demonstrate the effectiveness of ALC in improving cognitive performance.
Acetyl-ʟ-carnitine is synthesized in the body or obtained through dietary sources, in particular red meats. People who eat a vegan/vegetarian diet may be at the risk of a relative deficiency.
NFH ACETYLCARNITINE SAP May:
- Helps to support cognitive function in the elderly.
