Description
ALA constitutes an equal proportion of the R-(natural) and S-(unnatural) enantiomers that are mirror images of each other, also called a ‘racemic’ mixture.
Studies show that ALA has the ability to regenerate vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, glutathione, and vitamin E. Unlike ascorbic acid, DHLA can be recycled from ALA, and therefore is not destroyed by quenching free radicals.
Based on one study, there is a suggestion that ALA may reduce the amount of biotin in the body and hence biotin is added to this formulation to potentially alleviate biotin deficiency.
